What Matters for District 29

Gender Equity

Access to Menstrual Products

Access to menstrual products is a basic human right. It is a biological function that cannot be controlled, undergone by half the population that left untreated leads to health complications.

Progress in gender equity was achieved in New York in 2016 when Governor Cuomo eliminated the state sales tax on menstrual products. Councilmember Julissa Ferreras-Copeland spearheaded the successful effort to provide free menstrual products to all NYC public schools, shelters, and correctional facilities.

New York City Hall

If elected, I pledge to continue the fight for gender equity through an expansion of the bill put forward by former councilmember Julissa Ferreras Copeland and the NYC Council to provide free tampons and pads to all municipal buildings, including but not limited to:

  • City Hall
  • City Administrative Buildings
  • Public Libraries
  • Courthouses
  • University Administrative Buildings
